Beware of content overload

When creating content for your site, it is important to think about the capacity for users to digest information.

You have a message and you need to get that across but beware of content overload, specifically of using too much text.

Content overload or information overload is a modern phenomenon, we are bombarded with information from multiple gadgets, constantly throughout the day, and, as a result, some studies suggest that our attention span has become shorter. This can lead to your message becoming lost.

Video Marketing

Visual content is best

Video is a great addition to your website as it offers an engaging way of providing lots of information without relying on too much text.

Of course, there is a place for more informative, longer form written content on your website, but, sometimes a visual approach is more appropriate and more effective.

Visual content is best

Research by Nielsen Norman Group estimated that on average, only 28% of website text will get read, and more likely only around 20% of the text will be read. By contrast, 65% of website users will watch 75% of an online video.

A study by 3M showed that 90 percent of the information sent to the brain is visual, and visual information is processed 60,000 times faster than text. Video can then be really effective when you need to get a large amount of information across to site visitors quickly and concisely.

Google likes video

Video is an important channel for on-site conversion with video already making up 73 percent of all internet traffic, according to Cisco’s 2016 Visual Networking Index, and it’s forecast to grow to 82 percent of all traffic by 2021.

Video is also great for viewing on mobile and tablet which makes it a great medium across all device types.

Google likes video and having video on your website can boost your search engine performance.  There are a few ways in which video can be good for SEO…

  • Video tends to be a good tool for visitor engagement.  The more engaging your page content is the more likely you are to benefit from longer dwell time and even lower bounce rates.  Longer dwell time suggests that your content has captured the site visitors interest and that it is therefore likely to have been useful and relevant to their search.
  • Searches in google often now bring prominent video results, especially when people are using question based searches like ‘how to… or ‘what is.  Thinking about how your video content could answer common questions is a great way to get your video content more visible on Google.
  • Video is great for sharing and shared content creates backlinks.  Backlinks are good for your site authority which is, in turn, good for SEO.

How Rumble can help

We use an online video platform which has allowed us to create short animated videos in a variety of styles, including whiteboard explainers, cartoons, animation and contemporary infographic style videos.

Being able to produce these kinds of videos without using a specialist video production company has made video a viable marketing channel for smaller businesses who don’t have a big budget and crucially, want to publish something quickly. Just tell us what you want to say and we’ll do the rest.

Whatever your style, we can create a custom video with or without a voiceover to complement your website and engage your visitors.
