The British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (BOFAS) is a registered charity dedicated to the management of and research into problems affecting the foot and ankle.
BOFAS already had an existing DotNetNuke CMS which was originally developed by Pure Systems. They wanted to re-skin their existing website and update to the latest version of DotNetNuke, enabling them to utilise all the new functionality. Again, the most important factor for the website was the ability to make frequent updates and remain in control of all content added. All the DotNetNuke functionality was already in place due to the initial site development build.
On the original website a bespoke DotNetNuke module was developed enabling the import of 300+ members into the system, this meant BOFAS could manage their membership records online via the website. These online records made it easier for BOFAS to keep in contact with their members, enabling them to discuss any topics in the private forums.
A range of functionality was added to the site including news articles, file downloads, a secure member's area, a site search and forums. A secure eCommerce booking facility was also incorporated into the CMS, enabling members to book places for the annual meeting online using PayPal.
SEO work was required due to the new site structure so it was important that all old content was redirected to the new content.
The site had to meet W3C and Web accessibility guidelines where possible.
On completion of the project, the site was handed over to BOFAS who now maintain and update both textual and graphical content.
