Merlin Housing Society is the largest provider of social housing across the South Gloucestershire region. They manage around 8,000 homes.
Merlin Housing Society were looking to completely re-design their existing website. They wanted a flexible Content Management System (CMS) which would enable them to update and edit their content on a regular basis. Having had experience of using DotNetNuke (DNN) before, it was an obvious choice for their website.
It was a priority that the website should be easily accessible to users, acting as an online portal for residents (and potential residents) to find all the information they needed.
The design of the site was based upon Merlin's existing branding. It was a specification that it needed to hold a large volume of information and so was a priority that users would be able to read clearly and directly from the site.
Two colour schemes were needed for the site as the 'Make a Difference' brand has its own colours. This meant creating two sets of templates which can be easily accessed and selected via the CMS by Merlin staff.
The sub menus included in all the content pages are generated directly by DotNetNuke. This means that each time a page is added or deleted the menus will automatically update themselves, saving a considerable amount of time when making changes to the site.
A range of functionality was included within the Merlin site including latest news, upcoming events and job listings. All these modules were customised and styled to fit in with the design of the site and the Merlin branding. Users can also download archived news if required. A search was also included to assist users in finding relevant information.
The Merlin site includes a text size changer to ensure that their site is accessible as possible. It has been built to comply with W3C and Web accessibility guidelines where possible.
On completion of the project, the site was handed over to Merlin Housing Society who now maintain and update both textual and graphical content.
